Hour Of Penance: Paradogma

18/08/10  ||  Kampfar

Penance is, next after choirboys with super tight assholes and no pubic hairs whatsoever, a catholic priest’s best friend. Since I hate whole of humanity, both young and old, I’m not exactly upset by the fact that religious bastards sodomize and molest innocent young boys for a hobby. What upsets me, though, is the fact that they seem to be very gender specific when it comes to rape. After all I live in Norway, a shining beacon when it comes to gender equality, so I fucking demand them pedophile clergies to start doing little girls as well. Now!

Nuke the Vatican already.

Hour Of Penance hails Rome as home and have done so ever since they started out back in 1999, this with the intent of serving the world proper death without any bullshit attached. And, although I’m only ultra familiar with the record at hand and the one preceding it, namely “The vile conception”, I can assure you that their mission is a successful one. We aren’t talking the best death orchestra since Morbid Angel in their prime, fuckface, but if you claim them to be subpar and quite shitty, you are in a desperate need of some serious anal-torture as inspired by Jeffrey Dahmer.

If you only like the so-called old-school type of death where no blasting takes place, you should immediately stop reading and do some suicide instead. For just like last time around, 23rd Februray of 2008 exactly, we are talking mucho hits on the snare here. Naming “Paradogma” a blastorama would be stretching the term a bit, not by incredibly much, but still a bit, so that I won’t do. What I will do, however, is to claim this here motherfucker to be a tad weaker effort than what they had on the menu the last time we met.

The main problem, ladies and gents, is the job done by Stefano Morabito, which happens to be the one responsible for producing and mixing this here fucker. But, all the time I’m not even close being a greenhorn when it comes to recording music, Wojtek Wieslawski and his Hertz Studios, where the mastering took place, could be where things went a bit awry as well. Whoever is to blame, the problem is this: the motherfucking kickdrums boom the life out of this platter. Them kickdrums don’t succeed in killing all the fun, as in muting all the riffs, but there is no doubt in my mind that “Paradogma” would’ve been a much more enjoyable listen if whoever responsible made sure they didn’t totally dominate the day.

So what we have is quality platter of intensive death partly ruined by a somewhat dubious production. Since the almighty Internet doesn’t seem to agree with me, be sure to check for yourself.
